1-Day Mount Kilimanjaro Hiking via Shira Route
Embark on an early morning adventure from your hotel to West Kilimanjaro. After registration at Londrosi gate, hike through Shira Plateau’s rugged landscape, starting at 3,500m. Enjoy breathtaking views of Kibo and its northern glaciers. The moderate hike offers glimpses of Colobus Monkeys and the vast plains of Amboseli National Park. Stop at Shira Crater’s northern rim for panoramic views and a picnic lunch. Pace yourself in the thin air at this elevation and savor the untouched landscapes.
Arrival in Arusha
Upon your arrival at either Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport, you’ll be greeted by a representative from Masai Jungle Adventure who will escort you to your hotel. This initial day allows you to settle in and rest after your journey. Later, you’ll meet with our safari expert who will provide detailed information about the upcoming safari, including safety guidelines, wildlife expectations, and cultural insights.
Day 1: Arusha – Shira Gate
After breakfast, we’ll pick you up, heading to Londrosi gate for registration before reaching West Kilimanjaro via a scenic forest reserve, home to playful Colobus Monkeys. The hike begins at Shira Plateau, 3,500m above sea level, offering panoramic views of Kibo and its glaciers. Traverse the flat Shira plateau, marvel at Amboseli National Park’s plains, and Simba River’s deep gorge. Reach Shira Crater’s northern rim for stunning observations of volcanic cones. Hike at a moderate pace, savor a picnic lunch, and relish the untouched landscapes in the thin air at 3,500m. After 4-5 hours, or earlier if needed, return to your hotel.

- Transfer to the trailhead – entry gate to Kilimanjaro National Park;
- Pick-up at the exit from Kilimanjaro National Park and transfer to the hotel.
